Workshop at Charmo University

From 4th – 6th February 2019, the Workshop on Project Writing, International Marketing & the Use of Management Information Systems for Smart Administration of Internationalisation took place in Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

The event was hosted by Charmo University and included events both at the university’s Campus in Chamchamal and in Sulaymaniyah City.

In this workshop, the training sessions were conducted by a dedicated team from Masaryk University under the direction of Violeta Osouchova, Head of Division for Strategy and International Marketing.

The first day of the workshop focused on the writing of projects in relation to third-party fundraising. Here, Kurdish partners were presented with an in-depth introduction to EU funding schemes, after which they were introduced to main techniques and tools for writing successful project applications. As always, partners also engaged in practical exercise putting to the test the tools and techniques learned during the workshop.

The second day was dedicated to the topic of international marketing, which is key in raising a HEI’s international visibility and in attracting and recruiting international students and staff. Here the trainings focused on social media as well as institutional websites as means for international marketing. As during previous workshops of the TIGRIS Project, the training provided the Kurdish partners with hands-on experience letting them work with their institution’s own website and social media channels.

The trainings of the third workshop day were devoted to the use of Management Information Systems (MIS) for smart administration of internationalisation – a topic concerning both strategic management as well as IT infrastructure. Here, the team from Masaryk University presented their in-house developed MIS thereby offering a comprehensive insight into the setup and use of contemporary Management Information Systems for HEI administration and internationlisation in particular.

The following Q&A session provided for a welcome opportunity for the project partners to engage in an exchange on current information and knowledge management practiced in Kurdistan Region of Iraq, while also allowing to revisit the topics of the earlier workshop days.

As final event of the workshop, a Project Management Meeting was conducted by the Project Coordinator Dr. Uwe Muuss and Jakob Hedderich, TIGRIS Project Manager from Georg-August-Universität Göttingen engaging in planning of meetings and activities as well as conducting a workshop session on financial administration of EU-funded projects and streamlining of Kurdish financial auditing frameworks with EU funding rules and regulations.

In total, more than 40 Kurdish participants were trained during this workshop.

As additional activities during this visit, European partners took part in the opening ceremony of the newly established International Offices at Charmo University and Erbil Polytechnic University.
